The Wild One

My First-Born was a dream-come-true:
Sweet was her personality, patience her virtue.
But I wasn’t satiated and toyed with Fate,
As I was still in love with my motherly state.

My Second arrived with unstoppable fervor,
And soon earned himself the nickname, Terror.
Off he went, once he started going,
Full speed ahead, he never considered slowing.

At the store I’d turn my back,
And there he'd snuck inside a clothes rack.
Out in public or even at home,
He was never still, he was born to roam.

Why did we ever bother with a high chair
When all he did was go underneath there?
All I did, day in and day out
Was to catch him just before he wiped out.

There was only one thing on his mind:
Go, go, go! as I trailed him from behind.
Exasperated, my days would be,
While he ran, climbed, and hopped with glee.

Only asleep, ever so sweet, was time divine
When I can adore that wild child of mine.
Off to bed I should go, I’d tell myself right then,
For tomorrow best be ready to chase him again.

And a phase it was, as they all are,
He is now five and never goes far.
Time has flown by much too quickly,
Babies no more, my two I love so dearly.

Now, all this chasing is but a memory
Made of sweet thoughts replacing misery.
For now when I see a toddler running wild,
I know I’ve been humbled by my very own child.

May Flowers

Flowers in my vase,

A temporary grace.

Flowers suspended in time,

On screen forever sublime.

Never Quite the Same

www.trifectawritingchallenge.com

This weekend's Trifextra is the first of its kind.  This weekend we only need 32 words from you, because we're giving you the 33rd.  Your challenge is to write anything you want, in whichever form you please, so long as your response is exactly 33 words and includes the word "mother."

Never Quite the Same

How odd it looks;
How very foreign.
It stares at me,
Squinty, pudgy, sullen.

It's never quite the same,
Once you've had children.
Tis the plight of a mother,
And her belly button.

To Confess

www.trifectawritingchallenge.com

This week’s Trifextra challenge is simple, but ambiguous.
Three truths and a lie.
33 to 333 words.

Here is my entry in 33 words.

To Confess

To admire you, I gently undress you.

To show affection, I longingly caress you.

To feel powerful and dominant, I demand that you willingly address my insatiable appetite.

I love you, my princess.

Proximity

Lower down
 and see me
eye to eye
face to face

Beneath my
freckles and pigtails
you will
find my
spunk
humor
spirit
wisdom
heart

Take a step
back and
you might
miss my
dreams
 sorrows
longings
interests
fears

Retreat further
and you won't
even notice
if I
shrink
wither
dwindle
languish
fade

From a distance
I am a tiny speck
in this infinite world
where I long to be
noticed
heard
seen
acknowledged
recognized

I'm only little
and all I want
is to be close
so that I feel
safe
protected
known
understood
loved

Come back
and see me
eye to eye
face to face.

(Note: I just saw that I tied for third place for last week's Weekend Flowers at Tina's PicStory photo linkup.  I want to send a special THANK YOU to Imelda at My Word Wall for introducing me to this photo linkup.  She has some absolutely gorgeous photos of flowers and amazing fiction writing there!)
